Education+

Education+ was created because of all of our dedicated and highly skilled volunteers who have come to work with us and ended up contributing far more than they ever planned! Volunteers with the relevant skills, qualifications and experience can come and help develop or teach a set extra-curricular program at one of our schools. The various curricula help address common problems in the region, deficiencies in the school’s curriculum, or help support the school itself. Volunteers who have the necessary skills receive the curriculum in advance so that they can prepare and go to areas and schools that have yet to receive the training. We occasionally pair these volunteers with a local trainer to provide help and translation services depending on the project. Currently, we offer two Education+ programs: first aid trainings and co-teaching posts.

First aid trainings at schools cover a range of specific health, sanitation and nutrition issues that the region faces as well as basic first aid medical knowledge. Thanks to several previous volunteers, we have an excellent curriculum that is suitable to both students and community members! People with first aid experience can come and teach this curriculum at a local school – let us know your interest when you apply to be a volunteer!

Co-teaching requires volunteers to have a prior background and/or training in teaching methods. These individuals work with teachers who have expressed an interest in developing their teaching skills and methods. Together they team teach lessons and share their skills and experiences as they discover the best teaching practices for the region, culture, and environment.

In the near future, we are already working on developing programs for arts education, basic business & entrepreneurship, hands-on science, and photography. If you can help us develop these or any other programs or know of any resources we can use, please contact Danny at Daniel@helambuproject.org.
