Fundraisers
Below are just a few of the things people have done to support Helambu Project’s work. Please contact us for more information on how to get involved with fundraising – we are always looking for new people to join us! You can also support our project and raise money by joining Karma Network!
Pasang’s Picnic Pot-luckI organized a small pot luck picnic with a bout 20 of my friends and they extended their own contacts. Everyone brought a dish and paid for a small entry fee. We had a great summer day hanging out and playing games. I talked to them for about 20 minutes about the project and at the end of the day we voted on the best dish – the winner got a prize that I brought with me from Nepal.

Jamming for Jewerly
When I was in Nepal, I bought about 30 pieces of hemp bracelets, malas, earrings and other trinkets for really cheap (10 euros, 15 dollars). When festival (concert) season came around I went to the various campers and festival-attendees, talked about the project, what I was fundraising for (Buffalos for the school), and showed them pictures. The atmosphere was really relaxed and people wanted to hear about the project. After I sold two pieces of jewelry, I had already made my money back and the rest went to charity

Midwestern Wine & Cheese Parties
I got my parents to invite their friends around for a wine and cheese party. My parents donated the wine for the event and the invitation was open to the community. I showed a slide show of pictures I took in the village and talked to people the whole night about my experiences and how much fun I had. At the end of the night I spoke briefly to everyone there and asked people to donate to the project. They knew that I was going to ask them in advance so they brought their checkbooks and they just came up to me and let me know what a cool project they thought it was. It was really easy because my parents were planning on having people over anyways.

Charity at Church Gatherings
I went to a church gathering and spoke to the congregation about my volunteer experiences, shared photos, and used the time to reconnect with people after I had been away. I let everyone know I was fundraising and they offered money with me having to ask for it.

Night Club Bash
I talked to the local bands area and one of them agreed to host a gig at a nearby club for our project. The cover charge went to our cause and the band invited all of their fans to come. We had pictures of the project around the club with some fliers about the project and how to donate. People had a great time and while some people just came for the band – they still ended up supporting our project through the cover charge.

How High can you Climb?
Me and my friends are avid trekkers and were planning on climbing a small mountain. So about two months before we left we got people to sponsor us for every meter above sea level we reached. We told them how many meters we planned to climb and then we even got some small business to sign onto the project.
