Helambu Project UK and US are blessed with a whole host of friends, both from within and outside the community, all of which have helped by advising, working on, and helpings us fund different projects.
Village Environment Community Gangkharka (VEC)
VEC is a Nepali registered NGO that was founded 10 years ago to serve the communities and people of Helambu. VEC has implemented a wide range of small scale development projects, including the construction of the Pasang Memorial Community Boarding School. It is Helambu Project’s primary partner for projects in the region and works tirelessly on promoting the school, its welfare, and the welfare of the region.
Pasang Memorial Community Boarding School
PMCBS was funded by Helambu Project and founded by VEC. Today, it is a Nepali registered private school with over 120 students. The school is currently Helambu Project’s primary benefactor and is an important milestone in the area’s development. The school provides a quality education locally and emphasizes educating children about their heritages and pasts. Click here to learn more.
Project Hope
Jeremy Wildeman founded Project Hope in 2003, a Canadian-Palestinian NGO which works in the West Bank to brighten the lives of children surrounded by conflict through English and French language classes, as well as drama and art therapy. Under Jeremy’s guidance, Project Hope has grown to be one of the most reputable NGOs working in the region, and has been a wealth of information and important consultant in the development of Helambu Project and VEC.
Nepal Sherpa Women’s Association
As a legendary climber of the Himalayas and member of the Nepal Tourism Board, Nimi Sherpa is a role model for all Nepali women. She has been a crucial advisor and donor to the work of VEC and Helambu Project liaisons working in Nepal. She and her husband, Lhakpa Sherpa, were the first couple to summit Lhotse, in the Everest region, and together own Alpine Treks and Expedition Services.
Hyolmo Society of America
The Hyolmo Society of America is an organization of members of Helambu’s indigenous Yolmo community now residing principally in New York City. Its members have been enthusiastic and welcoming toward the establishment of Helambu Project, and are crucial advisors and fundraisers for Helambu Project/VEC projects in the region. Banchory Primary School is a sister school of Pasang Memorial Community Boarding School. It supports us financially, and the children from both schools exchange letters and pictures.
